GRDN uses a distributed architecture in which individual nodes can provide different functions.
A typical deployment may include:
- Core Nodes which provide backbone routing and critical infrastructure
- Regional Nodes which connect local networks to the wider GRDN infrastructure
- RF Gateways that connect radio systems to the data network
- Service Nodes which provide applications such as DNS, messaging, monitoring and VoIP
- Remote Nodes that provide connectivity from isolated or difficult-to-reach locations
- Mobile Nodes which provide temporary or rapidly deployable communications infrastructure
